The Govenrment has announced the sell off of the Royal Mail and the Unions answer is strikes. It is at times like this when we can all see how badly served we are by our politicians and Unions. The Government in Ian Gilmour’s telling phraise is still “Dancing with dogma” and about to foxtrot the universal postal service into oblivion. The unions too are locked into their old rationality that strikes solve problems. The unions would best serve their members by arguing forcibly for a workforce buy out. The Government should listen. The workforce already has 10 percent of the shares another 41 percent could be raised with Government holding the balance. There would then be no need for city spivs and carpetbaggers to cream off over £20 million in fees.
